THEME PARKS: Disneyland Resort is one of the most famous attractions on the West Coast and the reason why many tourists come to Orange County. Anaheim & O.C. were chosen by 42.90 million visitors in 2011 as the place to spend their vacations. This place, known as the “Happiest Place on Earth," is the ideal destination to have fun with your family. But Disneyland is not the only amusement park in the area, Knott’s Berry Farm, in Buena Park, is the oldest theme park in the U.S, and a more affordable option. Kids and adults can enjoy family fun on the various roller coasters and thrilling rides. During the warm days of spring, summer and fall, you can also have a great time at the Knott’s Soak City water park.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES: Orange County is mostly known for its world-renowned theme parks and beaches, but there is much more. In the county, you can find many museums and art centers that will educate and entertain adults as well as kids. The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana is one of the finest and largest museums in California where visitors can learn about world cultures through arts. It has a wide variety of activities such as exhibitions, lectures, art classes, travel programs, children’s art or music education programs. The museum also offers the Bowers Kidseum dedicated to children’s education where imagination and creativity are the keys of learning. On the first Sunday of every month, adults and kids can enjoy free access to both museums. On the other hand, the Discovery Science Center is a science museum also dedicated to children’s education on science, math and technology through interactive exhibits, such as the “Indiana Jones & the Adventure of Archaeology” exhibition, and programs like the free environmental programs. The Pretend City Children’s Museum, in Irvine, is also focused on educating young minds. It is an interactive “city” made for kids to live like “grown-ups” going to work, grocery shopping or get their pay from the local ATM. For a more artistic and cultural exploration, families can visit the Orange County Museum of Arts in Newport Beach or attend one of the many shows at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. In addition, because of the many beaches and beach cities, Orange County has a prominent surf culture. The International Surfing Museum, situated in Huntington Beach, also known as the ‘Surf City, USA’, is the place to learn about the surfing history and culture worldwide.

HISTORICAL POINTS: Orange County also has some historical points of interest such as Mission San Juan Capistrano, the only mission in the county and the oldest building in California still in use. Today, the mission has become a historical landmark and museum telling the history of California. You can also visit some other historical landmarks such as the Huntington Beach Pier or the Balboa Pavilion in Newport Beach, for example.

OTHER AMUSING THINGS TO DO: For animal lovers, we have a selection of the best places to have fun and learn more about animals. The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach provides a great opportunity for everyone to explore the World’s largest Ocean. Another interactive way to educate the family is to visit the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach. By rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing marine mammals, the center seeks to educate the public about the marine environment. In Orange County, you can also enjoy whale watching year round. Depending on the season, you may see different whales. December through April marks the return of gray whales to the Pacific coast while blue whales can be seen off the coast from May to November. Go watch the whales in places like Dana Point or Newport Beach. Also, the Orange County Zoo in Irvine, is home to animals and plants from the U.S. Southwest, while the Santa Ana Zoo will show you the fauna and flora of South and Central America. As previously mentioned, the county is famous for its many beaches and beach cities and the climate is ideal for spending a memorable day at the beach or enjoy visiting beach cities such as Huntington Beach. After a day at the beach, the zoo or the aquarium, you can end the day with the best interactive dinners in the area: the Pirate’s Adventure dinner or the Medieval Times dinner and tournament show in Buena Park. Finally, you can enjoy one of the amazing shows offered at the Honda Center in Anaheim, as well as hockey games.

All of these activities cannot be done in one day. To fully enjoy your stay in Orange County, we recommend booking an affordable room at the Anaheim Express Inn Maingate and make the most of your Southern California visit!
